Call me old fashioned, but I thought the James Cameron apocalypse was still quite scary to my standards and hardly feels outdated at all to me. I figured that the uniforms they wore were most likely salvaged military attire of some sort maybe even matching looted clothing to distinguish the resistance from civilian survivors. Who knows. I will admit that a few of the future scenes from the introductions appear outdated when it comes to styles at the time of production ofcourse, but the overall effect of each scene does what they're intended to do: show darkness, though it may be literal darkness the main component is figurative darkness. I do believe, however, that the actual night scenes are more or less coincidental. I don't doubt that dawn breaks at the same time everyday like it always has. I don't recall any little go-cart things at all to speak of. Dune-buggies maybe? Another thing we all should remember is that the future scenes from T1 and T2 as well as T3 were either from 2029 or the 2030's so there's bound to be more skulls and building debris strewn about the landscape by that time as opposed to 2018. Although 15 years after Judgment Day should show considerable damage to humanity roughly 27 years after the initial apocalypse would show much more. Not to mention obvious advancements in weapon technology upgrading from bullet weapons to phased plasma weapons by 2029. Even so, I'm still exceedingly pleased with all I've seen so far. It's great to finally watch the events we all wondered so much about finally unfold.

All time travel stories are very fun to watch, but all time travel stories are inconsistent which can drive a person insane. The fact people forget about the terminator story is the fact that time travel changes nothing in the future therefore time travel is in fact pointless. Now this is not claiming that Time travel is impossible but based on the events of the terminator the concept of time travel changing events in the past are not possible. If A leads to B and B leads to C and then C leads to A, you are in a sense trapped in a causal loop that has no end.

For example If someone lets say Bill one day wakes up and out of nowhere a future version of him appears in a crazy looking machine and tells you he is from the future and here are plans to build a time machine. Now the question you must ask is where did the future version get the plans to build a time machines if the present you received them from a future version of yourself. No matter how much you enjoy time travel you cannot argue a justifiable response to this scenario making sense.

Now in Terminator Time travel has no real purpose. Lets assume that skynet does kill John Connor all we can be sure of, if you except we can change the events in the past to affect the future is that john Connor does not run the resistance. One can without a doubt except the fact that someone else could lead the resistance to victory and this leads us back into a causal loop. Because in the new future timeline the machines would send another terminator back to kill this leader of the resistance in the new timeline and the loop would just continue on and own.

And this based on the theory that the past present and future all exist at the same time. IF you believe that only the present exist then there can be no time travelers from the future changing the past.

We have seen this story line before in the much beloved Blade Runner. I'm not saying that this movie is copying Blade Runner, simply that we've seen this type of thing before and it worked to good effect then too.

You're probably right about her needing a reasonable role to add some counterpoint. But this movie is about Batman, (hopefully) the Governator and CGI (robot)ass-whooping. I'm all for balance IF I get the first 3 things, and the balance is not in the form of cinematic Cheesewiz. It's tough to say who else could have gotten the role. It's not a big deal, but a non-caucasian may have better symbolized the battle of humanity against the Austro-Californian empire.
